At UDRiVe Group, we recognize the profound impact of trauma on individuals and communities, and our mission is to offer comprehensive support through evidence-based practices and compassionate guidance.
Understanding Trauma: Informed by the groundbreaking ACEs study, we acknowledge the lasting effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on one's well-being. Our services are designed to address the complexities of trauma, offering a holistic approach that considers the psychological, biological, and social dimensions of healing.
Navigating Toxic Stress: We understand the detrimental effects of toxic stress, particularly during critical periods of development. Our programs aim to create environments that buffer against toxic stress, fostering resilience and empowering individuals to overcome the challenges posed by prolonged exposure to adversity.
A Historical Perspective: Recognizing the historical context of adversities, UDRiVe Group acknowledges the enduring impact of collective traumas on individuals and communities. By understanding the historical roots of trauma, we tailor our services to address systemic issues and break the cycle of intergenerational adversity.
Compassion Fatigue and Advocacy: At UDRiVe Group, we recognize the importance of the well-being of those who dedicate themselves to caregiving roles. Inspired by studies on compassion fatigue, we emphasize self-care and provide support to professionals to ensure they can continue offering effective, empathetic services.

Our Vision.

Our Mission.
To provide a holistic approach to mental health care and recovery by offering an individualized, comprehensive, accessible, and affordable array of services for everyone.
About the Advocacy
The Filipino people exhibit resistance to trauma-informed care, primarily influenced by traditional cultural beliefs that stigmatize mental health issues, perceiving them as signs of personal weakness and sources of shame that may lead to social ostracization. This stigma hinders individuals from seeking professional help or acknowledging their trauma.
Historical factors, such as colonization and foreign influence, have instilled a collective resilience and stoicism, fostering a mentality of enduring hardships without openly addressing painful experiences.
Furthermore, limited resources and awareness around trauma-informed care in the Philippines contribute to resistance, particularly in rural areas where access to mental health services is scarce.
To overcome these barriers, a comprehensive approach is needed, involving education and destigmatization of mental health, improved access to services, and culturally sensitive strategies that respect traditional beliefs. Addressing these factors is crucial for fostering a more supportive and understanding environment for those who have undergone trauma.

10 Things we need to know about trauma
Prevalence of ACE during the first 18 years of life by sex: Philippines, 2007
1. Broad Definition: Trauma is not limited to singular catastrophic events; it encompasses a range of experiences that can overwhelm an individual's ability to cope, including but not limited to abuse, neglect, accidents, and natural disasters.
2. Common Experience: Trauma is a common occurrence, affecting individuals across diverse backgrounds and cultures. In the Philippines, 3 out of 4 Filipinos have experienced some form of trauma
3. Adverse Childhood Experiences: The ACE study reveals that a significant portion of the population has encountered adverse childhood experiences. Understanding and addressing ACEs is crucial for preventing and mitigating the long-term effects of trauma.
4. Impact on the Brain: Trauma can alter the structure and function of the brain, particularly areas associated with emotional regulation and stress response. Understanding these neurological changes is essential for tailoring effective therapeutic interventions.
5. Toxic Stress and Developmental Impact:
Prolonged exposure to severe stress, known as toxic stress, during critical periods of development can disrupt neural pathways and impact cognitive, emotional, and social development, emphasizing the importance of early intervention.
Prevalence and adjusted relative odd of health risk behaviors by number of adverse childhood experiences, Philippines 2007
Prevalence and adjusted relative odds of prevalent diseases, health conditions and symptoms by number of adverse childhood experiences, Philippines 2007
6. Historical and Intergenerational Effects:
Trauma can have a lasting impact across generations, as seen in historical traumas and their effects on families and communities. Recognizing these intergenerational patterns is vital for a comprehensive understanding of trauma.
8. Impact on Mental and Physical Health:
Trauma is strongly linked to a range of mental health issues, including PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Additionally, it can contribute to physical health problems such as chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, and cardiovascular issues.
9. Trauma-Informed Care:
10. Resilience and Healing: While trauma can have profound and enduring effects, individuals and communities can demonstrate resilience and recover with the right support. Building resilience involves fostering coping mechanisms, social connections, and a sense of empowerment for those affected by trauma.
What are we doing?
UDRiVe Group’s 10-year program towards Trauma-Informed Philippines 2030 could address the resistance towards trauma-informed care in the Filipino community by implementing several strategic initiatives:
3. Advocacy and Policy Development: Advocate for the development and implementation of policies that support and fund trauma-informed care programs in the Philippines. This could involve working with government officials, NGOs, and mental health organizations to prioritize and integrate trauma-informed approaches into national healthcare initiatives.

1. Cultural Sensitivity Training: Develop and implement training programs that educate mental health professionals and community leaders on culturally sensitive approaches to trauma-informed care. This would involve understanding traditional Filipino beliefs, practices, and values related to mental health and trauma.
2. Community Outreach: Organize community outreach programs to raise awareness about trauma, mental health, and the benefits of trauma-informed care. These initiatives can include public workshops, educational seminars, and informational campaigns to combat stigma and promote understanding.

7. Research and Evaluation: Conduct research on the effectiveness of trauma-informed care within the Filipino context and evaluate the impact of different strategies on reducing resistance.
6. Building Mental Health Infrastructure: Collaborate with local healthcare providers and organizations to build and strengthen mental health infrastructure, especially in underserved areas.
4. Collaboration with Traditional Healers: Establish partnerships with traditional healers and community leaders to bridge the gap between Western mental health practices and traditional Filipino healing methods. This collaboration would help integrate culturally relevant approaches to trauma recovery.
5. Integration of Trauma Curriculum in Education: Work with educational institutions to integrate trauma-informed care into school curriculums, creating a culturally sensitive and trauma-aware generation.

9. Accessible Resources: Develop and disseminate culturally relevant and accessible resources, such as educational materials and toolkits, to support individuals in understanding and addressing trauma.
10. Continued Community Engagement: Foster ongoing dialogue with community members to ensure that trauma-informed care initiatives are responsive to their needs and are tailored to address specific cultural beliefs and barriers.
8. Training and Capacity Building: Provide training and capacity-building programs for mental health professionals, social workers, and community leaders to equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide trauma-informed care.
By implementing these strategic initiatives, UDRiVe Group of Coaches can work towards breaking down the resistance towards trauma-informed care and fostering a more supportive and understanding environment for individuals who have experienced trauma in the Philippines.

What is Forward-Facing®?
Forward-Facing is Freedom.
Freedom from…the pain and trauma of the past; the weight and yoke of stress; the baffling complexity of mental health treatment; hopelessness, desperation and demoralization; and unfulfilled promises of a better life.
Freedom to…live beyond your fear in a comfortable body; gain traction toward living an intentional and principle-based life; find safety, vulnerability, hope and joy; optimize your skills and capacities relationally, professionally, personally and spiritually; to become who you choose to be rather than who your past has programed you to be.
The concept of "Forward-Facing®" comprehensive approach designed to address and resolve the impact of traumatic stress while promoting a principle-based and resilient way of living in the present.
Notes: Decades of research, clinical practice, and training have gone into the development of the Forward-Facing® tools with nine published empirical peer-reviewed studies that have demonstrated the skills we teach lessen the stress-related effects of caregiving and service work.
Trauma and Filipino Martial Arts
The Forward-Facing® Approach is a trauma-informed approach that focuses on the future rather than the past. It is a strengths-based approach that emphasizes the resilience and coping skills of individuals.
Connection to FMA: FMA, with its focus on skill-building, discipline, and empowerment, embodies a Forward-Facing Approach. Martial arts training encourages practitioners to develop a forward-looking mindset, setting goals, and working towards personal growth.
FMA (Filipino Martial Arts):
In summary, the practices of trauma-informed care, salutogenesis, the Forward-Facing® Approach, and Filipino Martial Arts share common threads of empowerment, resilience, and a holistic approach to well-being. When integrated thoughtfully, these approaches can contribute positively to the recovery and overall health of individuals who have experienced trauma.
Trauma, stemming from distressing or harmful experiences, has profound implications for mental and emotional well-being. In response to trauma, individuals seek various avenues for healing and empowerment. One such avenue that has gained recognition is Filipino Martial Arts (FMA), encompassing disciplines like Arnis, Eskrima, and Kali.
Trauma refers to a psychological, emotional, or physical response to an event or series of events that are shocking, distressing, or harmful. Trauma can have long-lasting effects on an individual's mental and emotional well-being.
Connection to FMA: Trauma-informed care is applicable to any setting, including martial arts training. Instructors who adopt trauma-informed approaches in FMA classes create an environment that prioritizes safety, trust, and sensitivity to the potential triggers associated with trauma.
Connection to FMA: FMA, through its emphasis on physical fitness, mental discipline, and self-empowerment, aligns with the salutogenic approach. The practice of martial arts can contribute to a sense of coherence and resilience, promoting overall well-being

There is a need to address ACEs to mitigate its effects. With awareness, compassion, and active involvement, we can help save people from chronic health problems, mental health concerns, substance abuse problems, and a whole lot more. We need to safeguard the lifelong health of children and adults through understanding and preventing ACEs. Our ultimate mission is to break the cycle of abuse, neglect, and violence that continues to plague generations.
Hence, we call for the continuity of similar causes and achieve a trauma-informed people and nation.

Coach Sheena imparted to participants the importance of helping children navigate through the challenges and feelings that they face. It is up to elders to become aware and help empower children to self-regulate.
It is important to be with children in their pain, so when they feel unsafe, they will come to parents and elders for support. Coach Sheena says we cannot parent a child whose hearts we do not have.

By chance, I stumbled upon Coach Poy and Forward Facing ® ME while continuing my search for affordable mental health services. I got to know myself better and thus became able to effectively manage myself, and my mental health in particular. ….. I recommend Coach Poy and Forward Facing ® ME even to those who do not have trauma, and to those who simply have a lot of things to manage in life. It will feel like going back to the basics and can be a bit frustrating at the start, but it surely is rewarding to consciously practice again the things left behind or forgotten due to the increasing demands of our time.
